Hike In The Number Of Ontario Physicians

Post-Storm Circumstances

Ontario is increasing the number of foreign-trained physicians who are authorized to practice medicine within the province.

Why it matters: A lack of physicians exists. In Canada, 6.5 million people—including around 2.2 million Ontarians—do not have access to a family doctor. In the meanwhile, the province's 13,000 physicians with foreign training are unable to practice due to licensing restrictions.

  • In addition, the Ontario government has pledged to pass legislation that would change the present law so that visiting physicians from other jurisdictions can begin working as soon as they arrive.

Future Impacts: A worldwide problem, the doctor shortage pits Canada against nations that provide easier avenues to practice, signing incentives, and housing advantages. Even cruise companies are participating in international hiring events to get on board some medical knowledge.

Some sections of Manitoba must cancel classes due to post-storm circumstances.

News: In Manitoba, all weather alerts have been lifted. But the highways are a different story. Some school divisions in the province have had to cancel buses or close on another day due to snow-covered pathways and nearly impassable secondary roads. A Colorado low pressure system dumped up to 25 centimeters of snow in some areas of southern Manitoba on Wednesday. According to Environment Canada, Winnipeg received 10 to 14 cm. Gusty winds from the storm system also contributed to drifting and ice conditions on several routes.
